Pinay mom parenting her Caucasian/Filipino daughter in suburban America.
It started as just some craving for jello. They say that when your body craves something, the food that you crave has something in it that your body NEEDS. I was craving for some kind of gelatin. I have been walking/jogging as part of my new health regimen and I had felt my knees and ankles are getting stressed and needing help. At least, this is how I am explaining my craving for gelatin, ok?
Anyway, to satisfy this craving, it is not enough for me to go for those Jell-o gelatin snacks. My Pinay taste buds will not be satisfied with “Strawberry Kiwi” or “Lime” flavors. What to do?
I went to our local Asian food store and found these cans.

How about if I serve it in this nice margarita glass?

I might definitely taste them! As long as there is no unagi in them! I don’t mind the taste of unagi, it’s the thought that puts me off! So call me weird!
V, which Asian store do you shop at? Is there one that is closer than Pacific Ocean in Broomfield?

No, no unagi. The grass jelly is what turns off Jack and Mary the most. It is greyish black, so unlike any gelatin that they’ve ever seen. I can’t really describe the flavor, it’s definitely different. I thought the coconut jell and jackfruit, with its light syrup will give the jellies some flavor, as they came unsweetened.
As far as Asian stores, I do go to Pacific Ocean. It is the closest one to our neighborhood. When I feel rambunctious, I go further to 74th and Federal— there is a little Asian store there that has items that Pacific Ocean do not carry and better prices on the items they have in common.
