Tooth fairy ritual
In Anglophonic cultures, children will traditionally places a lost tooth under his or her pillow before going to sleep. In the morning the child finds a coin, small banknote, or a present in the place of the tooth. The child is typically told that the tooth fairy came during the night and exchanged the tooth for the gift.
What to do about the “gift?” Jack says, “Don’t screw it up.” I took it to mean that I not wake her up when I do the “exchange” underneath the pillow or that I NOT forget to do it altogether.
Well, I was sort of prepared for this. I have a “special” coin, a Susan B. Anthony US dollar coin that is not in circulation much. So, Mary is not familiar with a coin like this and I would be able to tell her that it is a Tooth Fairy coin.
I also told Mary that the Tooth Fairy may only come for the FIRST tooth (Who wants to be doing this ritual another 19 times???!!!!).

I might relent and do this Tooth Fairy business a few more times— Won’t you want to see this happy face again?
Mary is my "I'm Not a Baby!" daughter and this is my blog about her and our life in suburban America. Parenting tales, our travels and travails, forays into great and not-so-great restaurants, kitchen adventures--- all chronicled with as much photos as you can stand. Comments are very much appreciated --- let me know you dropped by! Thank you.

dont repeat it, nopeeee
MC’s been in her 6th before i told her the tooth fairy would need to stop coming coz other kids need her too. kasi nalito yung mga friends nya who got gifts only after the first tooth, sempre diskusyonang katakut-takot. but if you want, a second visit would do kasi she’s special or bec she’s a good girl etc. i’ve blogged about it just this month, too..

I was looking for that entry- spent some time looking for it—I knew I’ve read it somewhere and I wanted to link to it. Kasi, I wanted to be like your acquaintance who only did the tooth fairy thing once. I do not have any more of the “special” coins but my mother-in-law said she will send me some. So, we’ll see.
