Much as I do not want to use my blog to rant on anything, I just have to do it…

Thanks to Mary’s best friend and her mom who had Mary over at their house for a playdate, I had the Sunday afternoon all to myself.  After dropping her off, I stopped by at the SuperTarget store that is close to their house.   We have a Super Walmart, Costco, Sam’s CLub, 2 Safeways, King Soopers, Albertsons, Flatirons Crossings Mall and this Target store— all within a five-mile radius but Target is not my first choice when it comes to shopping mostly because of accessibility reasons.  To get there, I have to go through the intersection at Highway 36 and McCaslin Blvd. where there are 3 stoplights and a merging turn where you’re almost assured of running into a driver who is uncertain of who has the right-of-way.  I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Anyway, after this visit, I would be going to Target much, much less.

Since I had time to kill, I walked around looking for bargains, trying to think of what I NEED.

Found a nice Ultimate Backpack that was marked down from $24.99 to $6.24. I certainly NEED that.

Ultimate Backpack Bargain
Found CU baseball caps marked down to $3.24.  I can add those to my pasalubong (homecoming presents when I go back to the Philippines) collection.

NEEDed some little things to put into Mary’s Advent Calendar. Found some Hello Kitty hair clips and hair ties, oh, they are 50% off- Great!!!
50 percent off
Have to bring in apples slices for Mary’s Halloween party on Wednesday- I NEED apples. Found some great-looking ones and they are only 99 cents/lb.
apples 99 cents per lb
At the checkout is when I got really p-o’ed with this store. First, I noticed that the price of the apples came up to $6.62. Hmmm, $0.99 per pound, I got 5 apples, the apples are over a pound each? They are big apples, I’ll check the receipt and see how much they weighed, I do not want to make a fuss unless I’m sure that there had been a mistake. Then, the checker scanned the prices on the Hello Kitty hair thingies. They were priced at a $1.00 each, with 50% off, they should register as 50 cents. I did not see them get marked down at the register (as their sign said— “50% off or more on original prices. Reduced price registers at checkout”) so I asked the checker about it.

I said, “Those items are supposed to get 50% off.”

“No, not these ones— only the ones on that one aisle.”

To which I countered, “The sign was right on top of it— 50 percent off and the reduced price will be at checkout.”

“No, not these items.”

I did not want to insist that she was wrong and I was right— I would need to take her to the area that was on the other side of the store to prove my point. So, instead I just said, “Well, I don’t want them, then, please take them out.”

I was paying with my debit card and had already swiped it so the transaction had gone through while we were arguing. But, it didn’t take long, the checker did not have to call a supervisor to void out the previous transaction, she was able to capture the transaction and then took out the items I no longer wanted. It didn’t seem long to me but for a brief second, I wondered what the other people who were behind me in the line thinking of me— “here’s this Asian woman who does not want to pay $9.00 instead of $4.50, can’t even read or understand English…” But, then again, they probably just do not care…

I just wanted to get out of there so I put my grocery sacks in the cart and walked off to direction of where I parked my car.

Wait a minute, let me check on those apples!

wrong price on apples

Yep, they got the price wrong.

I went to Guest Services and showed them my receipt and said that the apples were supposed to be 99 cents per pound. No arguments from the girl at the counter, she calculated how much I am owed back — “Cash ok?” and gave me $4.00. I said, that they should change that price in their system as not everyone pays attention. “Oh, we will.” Did not look like it was a priority for her to do that…

All in all, even with the bargains I got, I do not see myself shopping at Target any time soon AND I will be warning people about them, too.
