From a previous post, this is how I thought my Halloween would go.

….helping out at Mary’s kindergarten for their Halloween party, taking her to Chick-Fil-A for an informal lunch playdate with a little girl we met there on Monday, joining Mary’s friend, Marley and her parents for trick-or-treating at Pearl Street Mall, knocking on our neighbor’s doors for more candy and giving out candy to the five or six kids who make it to our door….

  • helping out at Mary’s Kindergarten — what a blast that was.  The party at their classroom was not starting till 10 o’clock but I found out, instead of dropping her off at 8:40 and then coming back to help out at 10:oo, I could stay and go with them on their Halloween Parade in school.  I wound up joining the other witches!

Mary and MarysMom as witches

  • taking her to Chick-fil-A for an informal lunch playdate with a little girl we met there on Monday — I did take Mary to Chick-fil-A but as Mary said, “She ditched me!” The new friend never showed up……
  • joining Mary’s friend, Marley and her parents for trick-or-treating at Pearl Street Mall — this was quite a treat for Mary and me. The Pearl Street Mall have most of their stores giving out candy and they had games and street musicians, some Sesame Street characters walking around and even the Boulder Police and Fire Department were represented.

Trick or Treat at Pearl Street Mall

  • knocking on our neighbor’s doors for more candy — I thought Mary would be tired by the time we got back home after 6 o’clock, especially after dinner at Turley’s (a treat from Marley’s parents). But, she was raring to go. Convinced her to put on a jacket and off we went.

Off to Get More Candy
Our neighborhood do not get too many trick-or-treaters so the homes that were indeed giving out candy (I was told, you can tell if they have a well-lighted front door AND lights inside the house that they welcome kids ringing their doorbell) tend to give out a HANDFUL— unlike at the Pearl Street Mall where there were loads of kids and they wanted to make sure they do not run out of candy. Mary really got into it and we probably knocked on fifteen doors, a couple had candy bowl(s) by their front door where Mary just helped herself. Her little legs could have gone for another thirty doors. She had more than enough candies and I was tired, so we went home….

  • giving out candy to the five or six kids who make it to our door— Since Mary and I were out and about, I set out a big bowl of candies and turned on our porchlight. But, no, there were no takers, I did not get ONE trick-or-treater to my door this year— probably because I forgot to turn the lights on inside the house…

As I put Mary to bed, she remarked, “I have never been this tired my whole life.”
