I joined NaBloPoMo (stands for National Blog Posing Month) where the members are challanged to do a blog post EVERYDAY for the month of November.  I have been doing close to a post everyday in October and I had wanted to do a post everyday.  NaBloPoMo and all my new-found friends from this site would certainly get me going.  My first concern was about finding topics to blog about.  Surfing through my new-found friends’ blogs gave me a lot of ideas and one of them is having a theme for a particular day of the week.

So, Friday Fun Food Find is born!

Every Friday, I will present at least 3 Asian foods- maybe, snack items, vegetables, dishes, sauces, etc.  I will not pretend to be the expert on any these foods, I would only share my (and Mary’s, if she would eat them) take on them.  Maybe, it will inspire you to try them out or not.

I talk a lot AND would be talking a lot about my Asian Market.  I would like to say now that they are NOT paying me, in kind or otherwise, I don’t get a special discount from them.  The only person I talk to, occasionally, if she happens to check out my items,  is the Pinay cashier, otherwise, nobody even smiles at me or greet me when I go shopping there, oh, at least, once a week.  So, none of the Friday Food Find blogs would be a paid endorsement from anybody. Now, that I got that out of the way…

Friday Food Find - Curious Snacks

I’m a stranger, myself,  to a lot of prepackaged snacks that I find in the snack aisle of our local Asian Market.

Corn Jelly package

Corn Jelly individual pack

Corn Jelly

I picked this up because I love jellies and gummies and sweet corn.  The phrase in front of the package also caught my eye “Choice American Sweet Corn.” I opened the package and I can smell that articficial buttered corn smell, much like the Jelly Belly Buttered Popcorn flavor jellybeans. Biting into the jelly, the texture is just about the same as any other jelly candy, but, the flavor, though mild, takes getting used to. I do not recommend buying the whole package just to try it out. If you come across a single piece unit, if you are feeling adventurous, try it. I had Mary take a little tiny bite and she had to fish it out of her mouth— “Blecch! Yuckky!”

Egg Cookies in Package

Individual Package Size Egg Cookies

Egg Xiaowan Cookies

Mary picked this one after I had her put back a package of Chrysanthemum-flavored hard candies. I like it and so did Mary. They are crispy/crunchy cookies about the size of a quarter, taste like sugar cones except not as sweet. It will satisfy your craving for something sweet and crunchy to chew on. Nutrition facts says that a little package has 80 calories, 1 g fat. Gotta love it, it’s low-fat!

Yan Yan

Yan Yan

This is an old favorite. Mary loves these.  And every time I buy extras for a treat on a playdate with one of her little friends from daycare or Kindergarten, it is ALWAYS a hit!  What is there not to love? It’s got a fun name, “fun” lines written across the little cookie sticks (e.g. “DO NOT BE TIMID” ???), chocolate (or strawberry or vanilla) dip — it’s interactive!

Next Friday — Hot Chili Sauce, Egg Roll Sauce and some other Curious Sauces…
