Rachelle did a blog post on Monday regarding her Musical Confessions— A dozen songs I SHOULDN’T love… But I do and had challenged her readers to play along.

Here is my musical confession—

Killing Me Softly With His Song by Roberta Flack
The Search is Over by Survivor
Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
Torn Between Two Lovers by Mary MacGregor
You Must Love Me by Madonna
Saving All My Love For You by Whitney Houston
Touch Me In The Morning by Diana Ross
Out Here on My Own by Irene Cara
Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston
My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

Hollywood movies would often portray the Japanese doing karaoke. What most people do not know is that Filipinos LOVE to sing, as well, and with the advent of karaoke machines and players, this love of singing can now be indulged anytime. A Filipino party is not complete without a karaoke machine and people fighting over the microphone for their turn. It doesn’t matter if you can’t carry a tune or you are tone-deaf, once you get on the mike, its like American Idol and who cares what Simon Cowell would say, if your audience do not like it, well, they can just wait their turn.

Our household here in Louisville, Colorado is only half-Filipino so I have not subjected my husband yet to the joys of having our own karaoke player. Mary, however, had her first taste of belting it out (to the tune of The Little Mermaid’s Part of Your World) when we visited my sister and her family in Calgary.  Thanks Gina, Rik, Rach and Lala for giving Mary a chance to find her Filipino singing soul.  And I apologize (not!) for my rendition of my karaoke favorites.
