Pinay mom parenting her Caucasian/Filipino daughter in suburban America.
One that she would probably not have until later since she does not, currently, own any shoes with laces (Hurray for Velcro!).
But, she acquired this Build-A-Bear dog on a recent playdate (more on that tomorrow) and the dog is sporting laced skating shoes.
Mary, at 5, I’m happy to say, listens to instructions VERY WELL, when she wants to learn something. I showed her the “Bunny ears” technique a couple of times, guided her fingers for a couple more and she was ready to try it on her own.

Get that loop into the “hole”

Tighten that Sucker!

The Finished Bow

Yay, Mary!
——-
Next time, I will teach her a different way— one that is said to be more secure. Found this at Ian’s Shoelace Site.
Make two loops and pass them both through the “hole” in the middle. Slippery shoelaces or serious sports are two good reasons for using this knot.

Mary is my "I'm Not a Baby!" daughter and this is my blog about her and our life in suburban America. Parenting tales, our travels and travails, forays into great and not-so-great restaurants, kitchen adventures--- all chronicled with as much photos as you can stand. Comments are very much appreciated --- let me know you dropped by! Thank you.

concentration with tongue sticking, haha. MC learned tying laces early, too. so if somebody else teaches her how to do it in a different way, she would simply insist on what she’s already learned. sabihin nya, mali yan

I guess I do the “standard shoelace knot” according to Ian’s site - http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/standardknot.htm. I never knew there were other ways to tie them! Connor is nearly 4 and has only had velcro shoes too so I’m not sure when I’ll have to teach him this skill! Plus, he’s a lefty and I’m a righty so that could make the whole thin more difficult!
LOL - I just saw that you left a comment on my blog at the same time I was typing this! Too funny!

I love how she is sticking out her tongue. All the best do it when concentrating. =P
I apparently tie my shoes some way weird, because my shoes would always come undone as a kid. I eventually learned to double tie them, but save a lot if time by not untying them to take them off so I could slip them back on. My parents think it is because I’m a lefty learning from two righties and I never quite learned right. I don’t look forward to having to teach my kids…they might learn this backward girl’s style!
