Pinay mom parenting her Caucasian/Filipino daughter in suburban America.
I watched my daughter drive away with a boy this morning.

Ok, they drove away in the school bus… but it was still an emotional moment— I entrusted MY precious little girl to the care of a BOY!
When Mary started Kindergarten this Fall, I was still working full-time so I was having her daycare take her to school. Then, when I got laid off three months ago, Mary and I walked (and scootered) to school— I loved the exercise and fresh air and Mary honed her scootering skills. Then, it got too cold in the mornings to do this so I was driving Mary to school. Though I was not a fan of the drop-off (traffic congestion in such a small place), I got used to it.
But, then, one of the other mommies encouraged me to get Mary on the school bus in the morning. Her little boy, a classmate of Mary’s, takes the same bus and would be happy to show her the ropes. Along with other kids in his neighborhood, he gets picked up first and is willing to look out for Mary, save her a seat, when she gets on the bus. Also, he would walk with her to their classroom.
The boy is NOT one of those that Mary would say are always in trouble in class and his mom is the sweetest woman so there was really no reason NOT to let Mary take the school bus in the morning.
Probably the only time I would feel comfortable about MY daughter going off with a boy…
Mary is my "I'm Not a Baby!" daughter and this is my blog about her and our life in suburban America. Parenting tales, our travels and travails, forays into great and not-so-great restaurants, kitchen adventures--- all chronicled with as much photos as you can stand. Comments are very much appreciated --- let me know you dropped by! Thank you.

Oh what an emotional event for a mom. I’m certain that it doesn’t affect her in even remotely the magnitude as it does you. You’ve done well.
Be proud. Although it is kinda bittersweet to see them all “grown up” isn’t it.

Oh gosh yeah! This one is really tough! You’ll see soon enough that she will enjoy taking the bus to school! I have pictures of the bus pulling up, her getting on and then the bus as it turned around the corner. I cried.

That story makes the picture even more emotional! I love how you captured the bus and reading the story behind it just made me go “Awwww.”
