Yesterday, I posted on Mary being “contrary” about our new rule of eating all meals at the kitchen table.  (Thanks *~*Jennifer*~* for that comment.)

Shortly after I posted that entry, Jack and I were watching TV in our bedroom while Mary was in the living room watching a different TV show. (This is usually how it goes in the evenings as neither Jack or I can stand watching any of the cartoons that Mary enjoys, e.g. Scooby Doo, Camp Lazlo, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends…) The master bedroom connects to the living room via glass double doors.  Mary closes the door thinking that we cannot see what she was up to.

Though the doors are indeed curtained, the curtains are sheer and I can see that she was munching on something.  I checked up on her and she had a cheesestick on one hand while she was finishing up another!  Prior to this, I know that she had already furtively brought in a Cereal Straw.  I know that she is sneaking them in because

Calmly, I tell her that we are supposed to have food in the kitchen, not anywhere else in the house.  I did not take away the cheesesticks, I just told her that next time, we have to remember this.

Then, I thought about, maybe, relax this rule and that we can have snacks while watching TV.  But, then, this will become a habit, that it will be “mindless” eating- watch TV- have a snack, TV- snack.  Y’know, like see a movie- have a bucket of popcorn even if you just had lunch and not really hungry.

So, I ‘ve decided I will be a “meanie” and stick to my guns about this.

And Mary can just keep being contrary.
