We said goodbye to chocolates today.

We got a great-looking pack of strawberries from Costco and Mary wanted to get them covered in chocolate.  We did this once before and I melted chocolate chips in the microwave for the dip.

But, this time, we were out of chocolate chips.

We did, however, have chocolates leftover from Christmas— a handful of chocolate coins, about seven chocolate bells, a couple of thin bars of organic, really bitter chocolate (there’s a reason why it is still in the cupboard) and a super sweet, maple Santa Claus (ok, that’s not chocolate but we kept it around in case someone wants to bite into the bitter chocolate and bite into this as a chaser).  Unwrapped them all into a Pyrex bowl (butter/grease sides and bottom), broke off the bars and Santa Claus into smaller pieces and into the microwave for 45 seconds.  Some good stirs with the egg beater and it is dipping time!

Making Chocolate-covered Strawberries

(Oh, and make sure to wash/rinse off the strawberries and pat dry before dipping.)

So, that was the last of the chocolates.  Jack and I resolved NOT to buy any to be kept as stock around the house.  As an occasional treat, a small bar here and there, as a pasalubong but NO MORE BAGS OF CHOCOLATES or any other kind of candy for that matter.

They looked great on their way out, though.

And fun was had by all…
