Mary at hanging bridge

Picnic Grove, Tagaytay, Philippines where Mary finally got sunburnt.  Me, too.

For the most part, I had been very careful about applying sunblock for both Mary and I.  As it had been cloudy and rainy for the last month or so, we had not done much outdoor sightseeing— our trips had mostly been to the mall or visit with relatives.  Since we only had about three weeks left on our vacation here in the Philippines, we went for this trip to Tagaytay.  I was not anticipating stopping at a picnic area and going on a walk up and down the grove.  Hence, no sunblock.

Tagaytay is a town on the rim of the largest crater of the Taal Volcano.  The town overlooks onto the lake that was created around a smaller crater of the volcano.

We had planned a day trip to this popular weekend destination and tourist spot.  We only had time to enjoy the view and fresh air while we were picnicking under one of the cottages then went on the “eco-adventure” trail which included the hanging bridge, a visit to Tierra De Maria, where a 50-foot statue of the Virgin Mary welcomes devotees and then a stop at the Meat Market for some good tenderloin beef just recently slaughtered.

When Jack comes with Mary and I on our next trip to the Philippines, I would insist on spending at least three days in this area.  Mary and I did not get to do horseback riding or taken a boat trip on the lake to the smaller crater, hiked around the small island, or visited the Palace in the Sky or taken the view from Josephine’s restaurant where, I was told, the view from the picture window within makes one feel like one is falling right onto the volcano’s mouth. We have lots more to see and do, honey!
